Already it was called Wide the Straw, Square of the Milicianos, Plaza 7 of April, Square 15 of November and finally, in 1889, it was definite Square of the Republica.

Constructed from the model of européia urbanization, the square, that makes a link between the old center and the new center, was chosen in 1894 as the address of the Normal School Caetano De Campos. The beautiful building planned for Azevedo Branches is currently the headquarters of the State Secretariat of the Education.
