A famosa Avenida Paulista se tornou ícone máximo dos paulistanos. Como um dos pontos turísticos mais característicos da cidade, sua grandiosidade diferencia São Paulo das outras cidades do Brasil e do mundo.
Difícil é imaginar que a região, em meados de 1782, era apenas uma grande floresta, chamada pelos índios de Caaguaçu (em tupi “mato grande”). Era ali, atravessando o sítio do Capão, que a estrada da Real Grandeza cortava a vegetação grossa por uma pequena trilha. Quando o engenheiro uruguaio Joaquim Eugênio Borges, juntamente com dois sócios, compraram a área, começaram a trabalhar na sua urbanização de forma inovadora, criando grandes lotes residenciais. Em 8 de dezembro de 1891, foi inaugurada a primeira via a ser asfaltada e a primeira a ser arborizada. A população da cidade não passava de cem mil habitantes quando se fez a Avenida Paulista.
Seu desenvolvimento prosseguiu com a inauguração do Parque Villon, em 1892. Anos mais tarde o nome do parque foi mudado para Siqueira Campos e em seguida Parque Trianon, como permanece até hoje. Sua área verde é remanescente da Mata Atlântica, possuiu espécies nativas e diversas esculturas.
Em 1903, empresários paulistas fundaram o Instituto Pasteur de São Paulo. Direcionado para a pesquisa do vírus rábico, desde o início,esta instalado no mesmo edifico. O Sanatório Santa Catarina, primeiro hospital particular da cidade, foi construído em 1906. Atualmente, a região abrange um dos maiores complexo hospitalares do mundo.
Na década de 50, as construções residenciais, com seus estilos variados, começaram a ceder lugar aos edifícios comerciais. Um dos marcos da arquitetura moderna foi a inauguração do Conjunto Nacional, em 1956.
A região atraiu muitos investimentos por estar bem localizada e por possuir grande infra-estrutura. Todo esse interesse consolidou a Avenida como o maior centro empresarial da América Latina. Por causa da grande quantidade de sedes de empresas, bancos e hotéis, a Paulista recebe milhares de turistas de negócios todos os dias.
Além da vocação econômica, a Avenida oferece uma rica variedade de programas culturais. O Masp – Museu de Arte Moderna Assis Chateaubriand – inaugurado em 1968, possui o acervo da arte ocidental mais significativa dos países latinos. A Casa das Rosas foi concebida em 1953 por Ramos de Azevedo nos padrões do classicismo francês. A galeria de arte hoje é tombada por seu valor histórico. Essas pérolas culturais e tantos outros cinemas, teatros, centros culturais e cafés instalados na Paulista garantem um passeio repleto de opções. As pessoas que circulam por toda sua extensão de 2,8 quilômetros, tanto utilizando o metrô, como ônibus ou a pé, encontram diversos restaurantes e lanchonetes, conhecem os magníficos prédios e obras que se espalham por ali.
A Associação Paulista Viva foi criada no final da década de 80, com o objetivo de preservar a imagem do símbolo de São Paulo e melhorar a qualidade de vida de todos que freqüentam a mais famosa via da cidade, a Avenida Paulista.

The famous São Paulo Avenue if became maximum icon of the
paulistanos. As one of more characteristic the tourist points of the city, its grandiosidade
differentiates São Paulo of the other cities of Brazil and the world.
Difficult it is to imagine that the region, in 1782 middle, was only one great forest, called
for the indians of Caaguaçu (in tupi "great weeds"). It was there, crossing the small farm of
the Capon, that the road of the Real Largeness cut the thick vegetation for a small track.
When the Uruguayan engineer Joaquin Eugênio Borges, together with two partners, had bought
the area, had started to work in its urbanization of innovative form, creating great
residential lots. In 8 of December of 1891, he was inaugurated the first way to be tarred and
the first one to be woody. The population of the city did not pass of one hundred a thousand
inhabitants when the São Paulo Avenue became.
Its development continued with the inauguration of the Villon Park, in 1892. Years later the
name of the park was changed for Siqueira Fields and after that Trianon Park, as it remains
until today. Its green area is remaining of Atlantic Mata, possessed native species and
diverse sculptures.
In 1903, São Paulo entrepreneurs had established the Pasteur Institute of São Paulo. Directed

The Sanatorium Santa Catarina, first particular hospital of the city, was constructed in

conceived in 1953 for Branches of Azevedo in the standards of the French classicismo. The art
