Memorial da América Latina
 

Inaugurado em 18 de março de 1989, no bairro da Barra Funda, na cidade de São Paulo, o Memorial da América Latina foi criado para difundir as manifestações latino-americanas de criatividade e saber, sempre com o objetivo de interagir relações culturais, políticas, econômicas e sociais.

Em uma área com 84.480 m², o arquiteto Oscar Niemeyer projetou o espaço em cima do projeto cultural desenvolvido pelo sociólogo brasileiro Darcy Ribeiro, que sempre defendeu a integração da América Latina.

O espaço é divido em vários ambientes. Como a Praça Cívica, um espaço aberto onde se encontra um dos maiores símbolos do Memorial, a escultura “A Grande Mão”, que simboliza o sangue derramado pelos povos latino-americanos na luta pela liberdade; o Salão de Atos Tiradentes, que tem seis painéis que contam a saga da colonização latino-americana; o Auditório Simon Bolívar, famoso por já ter recebido chefes de Estado como Bill Clinton, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez, entre outros. A Biblioteca Latino-Americana, que conta com o maior acervo especializado em cultura latino-americana, com cerca de 30 mil volumes. Outro ambiente é o Pavilhão da Criatividade Popular Darcy Ribeiro, em que há uma maquete com quase mil pequenas peças, criada pelos artistas Gepp e Maia, com os principais pontos turísticos dos paises latino-americanos e cenas como uma do livro de Ernest Hemingway escrita em Cuba, O Velho e o Mar. O Pavilhão abriga também uma exposição permanente de arte popular latino-americana.

O Memorial conta ainda com o Anexo dos Congressistas, espaço dedicado a atividades acadêmicas, diplomáticas e pequenas exposições. E a Galeria Marta Traba de Arte Latino-Americana inaugurada em 1998 e projetada também por Oscar Niemeyer, num espaço que funcionava originalmente como restaurante especializado em comida latino-americana.

Além de todos esses ambientes, o Memorial destaca-se como um dos principais pontos turísticos da cidade pelas inúmeras celebridades que recebeu até hoje. Como Luciano Pavarotti, o Balé de Cuba que se apresentou na inauguração com a bailarina Alicia Alonso, por ter sido a durante anos a sede da Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo e porque foi lá que nasceu o projeto da Universidade de Música e a Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica.

O Memorial recebe grupos para visitas gratuitas e monitoradas. O espaço tem uma grande área ao ar livre, mas a falta de árvores o deixa com o clima árido, então para a visita é bom se prevenir.

Memorial of Latin America
 

Inaugurated in 18 of March of 1989, in the quarter of the Deep Bar, in the city of São Paulo, the Memorial of Latin America was created to spread out the Latin American manifestations of creativity and to know, always with the objective to interact cultural relations, politics, economic and social.

In an area with 84.480 m², the architect Niemeyer Oscar projected the space in top of the cultural project developed by Brazilian sociologist Darcy Ribeiro, who always defended the integration of Latin America.

The space is divides in some environments. As the Civic Square, an open space where if it finds one of the biggest symbols of the Memorial, the sculpture "the Great Hand", that it symbolizes the blood spilled for the Latin American peoples in the fight for the freedom; the Hall of Tiradentes Acts, that has six panels that they count the Saga of the Latin American settling; the Simon Audience Bolivar, celebrity for already having received heads from State as Bill Clinton, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez, among others. The Latin American Library, that counts on the biggest quantity specialized in Latin American culture, with about 30 a thousand volumes. Another environment is the Pavilion of the Popular Creativity Darcy Ribeiro, where it almost has a mockup with a thousand small parts, created for the Gepp artists and Maia, with the main Latin American tourist points of paises and scenes as one of the book of Ernest Hemingway written in Cuba, Old and the Sea. The Pavilion also shelters a permanent exposition of Latin American popular art.

The Memorial account still with the Annex of the Congressmen, dedicated space the academic, diplomatical activities and small expositions. E the Gallery Marta Traba de inaugurated Latin American Arte in 1998 and projected one also for Niemeyer Oscar, in a space that originally functioned as restaurant specialized in Latin American food.

Beyond all these environments, the Memorial is distinguished as one of the main tourist points of the city for the innumerable celebrities that received until today. As Luciano Pavarotti, the Ballet of Cuba that if presented in the inauguration with the dancer Brides Alonso, for having been during years the headquarters of the Symphonic Orchestra of the State of São Paulo and because it was there that it was born the project of the University of Music and the Symphonic Orchestra Jazz.

The Memorial receives groups for gratuitous and monitored visits. The space has a great area to the outdoors, but the lack of trees leaves it with the barren climate, then for the visit it is good for preventing itself.
